Mental Health in Childhood: Developmental and Contextual Aspects within the Family Environment
Child mental health has been conceptualised as multidetermined, involving influences from multiple domains and characteristics, encompassing both individual and contextual factors. Although this developmental period has been widely investigated, certain topics still require further in-depth examination. When considering healthy child development, it is essential to recognise that repertoires of positively adaptive behaviours are associated with more favourable life outcomes. Furthermore, the quality of early interactions and parenting experiences may influence children’s experiences and developmental outcomes. In this symposium, we will address aspects related to child resilience, the impact of parenting practices on mental health outcomes, and factors that influence parenting. Emphasis will be placed on empirical evidence that articulates the relationships between parenting, resilience, and child mental health, especially regarding the promotion of adaptive developmental trajectories across the lifespan
