Problematic Use of Social Networks and the Internet and Cyber Gender Violence in Adolescence

The impact of information and communication technologies on the personal, social, and educational development of adolescents has profoundly transformed interaction dynamics in today’s society. Among the most salient issues are problematic use of social networks and the internet, cyber gender violence, and their repercussions on emotional, family, and cognitive variables.

This symposium focuses on studies conducted with adolescents who use social networks and the internet. Presentations will cover: psychometric properties of a questionnaire on problematic social network use; the relationship between problematic social network use and body dissatisfaction; the link between cyber gender violence and family climate and school failure; and the relationship between problematic internet use and executive functions during adolescence.
