Body image and eating disorders in adolescence and youth: an integrative perspective between research, technology, and clinical practice

This symposium offers an integrative overview of issues related to body image and eating disorders (EDs) in adolescence and youth, addressing these phenomena at the intersection of research, technology, and clinical practice.

It will examine the role of social media in the internalization of aesthetic ideals and its impact on psychological well-being. Likewise, it will explore the use of emerging technologies, such as virtual reality and mixed reality, as innovative tools for the assessment and intervention of body image difficulties and eating disorders.

In addition, the role of stigma associated with eating disorders and body image will be analyzed. Finally, clinical intervention approaches that integrate scientific evidence with real-world clinical practice will be presented.

Overall, the symposium aims to offer an updated and multidimensional perspective that fosters dialogue between research, technological innovation, and clinical application, contributing to a better understanding and management of body image issues and eating disorders in young populations.
