Venue
GRANADA, SPAIN
Granada is a city located in southern Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and in the Genil River valley. Its privileged location, between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, has shaped its history, climate, and cultural diversity. Over the centuries, Granada has been an important meeting point between civilizations, giving rise to a unique identity.
Historical heritage and architecture
The city is internationally known for the Alhambra, one of the most visited monuments in Europe and the greatest example of Islamic architecture in the West. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries by the Nasrid kings, it combines palaces, fortresses, and gardens featuring water features, geometric decoration, and integration with the landscape. Next to the Alhambra is the Generalife, the former resting place of the sultans.
The Albaicín district, with its narrow streets and white houses, preserves its medieval urban layout and offers impressive views of the Alhambra. Granada also has important Christian monuments, such as the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, where the Catholic Monarchs are buried, reflecting the historical transition after the conquest of 1492.
Culture, cuisine, and Federico García Lorca
Granada’s cuisine is one of the city’s great attractions. It is famous for its tradition of serving free tapas with every drink, as well as for typical dishes such as beans with ham, Sacromonte omelet, fried potatoes with green peppers, and local products such as Trevélez ham. This cuisine reflects the mixture of Andalusian and Mediterranean influences.
Granada is closely linked to Federico García Lorca, one of the most important poets and playwrights in Spanish literature. Born in the province, Lorca maintained a deep relationship with the city, which influenced his work. His legacy is preserved in places such as the Huerta de San Vicente, the Federico García Lorca Center, and the cultural routes that run through the spaces linked to his life.
Overall, Granada is a city where history, art, literature, and tradition coexist in harmony, offering a unique cultural and human experience for both visitors and residents.
